The Wind Through the Keyhole

25 Apr

Stephen King’s latest addition to the Dark Tower collection just became available for download to kindle on April 24th at midnight. I already had it on pre-order and I stayed up late specifically to download the book. Even though I was in the middle of King of Thrones I couldn’t help but start reading. Today, two days later, I finished the 320 page book (which we all know is extremely short for any King publication but especially for a Dark Tower book.

The setting for The Wind Through the Keyhole is to fall between books four and five, making this book 4.5 as some are calling it. We once again meet with our old friends Roland, Eddie, Suzanna, Jake, and one of my personal favorites Oy! Jaime DeCurry and a small boy named Tim play a large part of this book.

One portion of this book is about the search for the “skin man” and the other part is Roland retelling a story his mother used to tell him as a child, appropriately named “The Wind Through the Keyhole”.

I loved every minute of this book, but like any Dark Tower book it left me wanting more. In my opinion this was way too short. The entire book covers what would be a small tangent in the other books. The other thing that left me wanting more was the fact that most of the story is during Roland’s younger years so we don’t get to see much of the other characters we have grown to know over thousands of pages.

I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to stop reading about these characters or their quest for the dark tower. I can old hope that there will be more .5 books to come in the future! If you’re a Dark Tower junkie like I am, this is a must read!

Under the Dome

17 Apr

I just got done reading Under the Dome by Stephen King. King is by far my favorite author. Nothing I’ve read from him has been a disappointment….until now. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a bad read, but not something that I couldn’t put down, and to me the ending was just lame. There were parts that were good. Right about the middle I was just starting to feel like things were picking up, then they quickly died down again. I didn’t fall in love with any of the characters, didn’t cry when they died or almost died….there was one that I hated enough to want to plot his death, but that was it. When it was over it didn’t leave me wanting more….and I never want a boom to be over. I had read so many good reviews of this one too. It’s not enough to make me give up on King, not sure that anything could, but it does make me question this purchase. If you can borrow it from a friend or the library then I say give it a read. If you have to shell out money for it then wait until you find that free copy, seriously.

Now, hoping the next book in the Dark Tower series will boost my impression of King! Wind Through the Keyhole will be out at the end of this month. Until then I’ve started reading the King of Thrones series and it’s really good. Started watching Season 1 of the show too. So much more detail in the books, but that’s always the case.

Bubble Up Pizza

5 Apr

I’m stuffed!  So much for not cooking for a week in preparation to leave for a month.  I cleaned out the refrigerator and everything but having absolutely no food in the house sucks.  So I made a quick trip to the grocery store today for just enough stuff to make a recipe I found on Pinterest.  Find the recipe here.

Here’s what the final product will look like, or close anyway….

Bubble Up Pizza

I generally love all things vegetarian, but I’ll be honest, I had fully intended to pick up some pepperoni while I was at the store and totally forgot.  So, this is a veggie version.  1 can of artichoke hearts chopped, sliced pickled jalapeños (like for nachos), 1 can of sliced olives, 1 can of mushrooms, nearly an entire bag of spinach, and lots of cheese!  I ended up having to bake this much longer than the site suggested.  I’m not sure if it’s just my oven or the fact that I couldn’t find biscuit dough that came in a size of six biscuits, the smallest I found was packages of 8.  It still turned out really good though.  So much easier than rolling out dough.
