Juice Fast #2–Day 6

I’ve nearly made it through my first work week while fasting and it’s actually going great.  I’m hardly every hungry, and I realized after a coworker asked me last night, that I’m not even having cravings like I had before.  This doesn’t mean that I can’t wait for solid food though, because I am really looking forward to that!

Very small weight loss since yesterday.  Down 0.2lbs to 135.4.  I feel like these small loses are the real weight coming off so I’m not discouraged.  I’ll be able to try working out again now that my weekend is here.  Hopefully I’ll have more energy than the last time I tried.

Juice Fast #2–Day 5

I can’t believe I’m already 1/3rd of the way done with my juice fast.  It’s becoming much easier now.  In fact I’m rarely ever hungry which is nice. 

I finally got a ton of sleep since I don’t have to be to work until my regular time tonight.  My second long shift was easier than the first, and tonight is just a regular 10 hours!!!  Very excited about that.  I’d say the only bad thing with a lot of sleep is that I wake up not feeling too awesome because it’s been so long since I’ve had juice.  I was pretty light-headed and hot today.  Once I got outside and took the dogs for a walk I was feeling better, and now that I’m drinking some juice I feel like a million bucks again!

I bought a lot of interesting things to juice today, fennel, rutabaga, kale (which I haven’t been a big fan of juicing but I’m giving it another try), and something else I forget the name of, lol.  I have no idea how they’ll actually taste, but just like new foods, I love trying new things good or bad.  It’ll add some variety and that’s always good.  Oh, I also found some orange baby beets which I’m really excited about.  I don’t love juicing regular beets so I’m hoping these will be better.

Amazingly I’m down another full pound today, 135.6 on the scale!  Getting so close to my goal already.  I do expect the weight loss to slow down soon, but I still think I’m going to reach or come close to my final goal!

Juice Fast #2–Day 4

Wow!  I can’t believe I’m already on day four of no food.  Things are going pretty good so far.  I’m not having any real cravings for food which is good.  My coworker even ate sushi in front of me last night and I managed not to drool too hard, lol.  It did look amazing, but I know I can eat sushi when I’m done with my fast.  It’s weird, when I’m fasting I look at food (recipes) and talk about it so much more than I normally do, and I’m a food lover so that’s a lot!

I had a rough day yesterday, not really because of the fast, but it probably contributed to it some.  Of course there’s no caffeine allowed on a juice fast and I worked a 14 hour night last night, and am getting ready for another one now.  I didn’t get enough sleep today either so I’m feeling pretty tired.  My eyelids were so heavy last night, but I made it through without feeling too bad, mainly just a bad headache that set it towards the end of the night.  Honestly, that probably would have happened anyway simply because that’s a long time to sit and stare at a computer screen.

I’m having these weird hot flashes (no not those kind!), and a different coworker of mine said that’s what it feels like to detox.  So weird, I swear I didn’t experience any of this stuff the first go around.  Maybe I ate a lot healthier back then, but I don’t really think I’ve been eating super unhealthy since I got back from my vacation.  Other than that I’m feeling pretty good though, maybe a little spacey, but nothing new there, haha.

I did notice that one of my triggers for eating must be anger.  I left work pretty upset and on my short (five minute) drive home I caught myself thinking “What am I going to eat when I get home (to make myself feel better).”  No joke.  That’s crazy.  I don’t think I realized that before. Anyway, I was good, didn’t eat anything but did drink some juice before bed. 

I’m down another 1.2lbs, at 136.6 today, and a grand total loss of 3.6lbs so far.  I can see a HUGE difference in my stomach.  It’s looking so much flatter which makes me happy.  Also, I haven’t been at this weight since I left for vacation so I’m feeling pretty good about that.  I know in order to make the weight loss real I have to stick to the fast though.  If I were to quit now I’d gain it all right back. 

Juice Fast #2–Day 3

So far so good!  Day two went by and I still wasn’t craving food too badly.  I did go a few long stretches without any juice because I was so busy running errands, but I survived with just water to get me through.  It’s times like this that I wish there was a juice bar around here somewhere.

I did experience my first episode of dizziness and nausea, which surprised me.  During my first juice fast I never had that happen.  Of course it happened at the worst time too, right when I was trying to get out the door to an appointment.  But, it really wasn’t that bad, I just went on my way and ignored it as best as I could and soon enough it went away.

I totally failed at working out yesterday, but I’m going to today right after I go grocery shopping for more veggies and fruit.  It’s amazing how much produce you can go through in order to make your juices.  For that reason my favorite thing to juice is cucumber because it provides a ton of juice for the price, plus it doesn’t add any weird taste to the drink!  I also juiced watermelon and cantaloupe for the first time….yummy!

I actually tried one of the recipe of the week recipes and it was really good!  Give this a try:

2 Asian pears (or any other kind of pear)

2 Granny smith apples

2-3 Stalks of celery

1 Lemon

My grocery store didn’t have the Asian pears (which I love) so I substituted Bartlett pears and it was still good.

Not as shocking of a weight loss yesterday, 0.6lbs and I’m down to 137.8 on the scale.  Progress is progress and I’m sticking to it. 

The challenge for me now is going to be that I’m starting my work week tonight.  Two 14 hour shifts in a row isn’t going to leave me much time to get my juices ready and still get sleep.  I’m committed to this 15 days though, so I’m going to make it work. 

Juice Fast #2–Day 2

I said I’d update you on the success of my first day, and I’m proud to say that that’s all I have to report!  Nothing but success.

Made it through the day without any problems.  I do get hungry every few hours, but the juice is doing it’s job to keep the hunger at bay.  I drank 5, 16oz juices yesterday and about 90oz of water.  A little TMI but I swear I peed for minutes straight, lol.  It’s good, flushing all that bad crap out.  I probably should have drank more water but it’s hard when I’m at work because bathroom breaks can be far and few between.

I managed to do my fitness test for work.  I did have a weird experience and I’m not sure if that was due to the juice fast or if it was because I was running on pavement when I’m used to my treadmill.  My calves tightened up so bad last night that stretching after my run almost brought tears to my eyes.  I’m glad I did it anyway though because this morning I have no soreness at all.

And now, for the most exciting news, I weighed in at 138.4 this morning.  That’s down 1.8lbs from yesterday.  Feeling strong and feeling good about this, my willpower is an unbreakable fortress….but food still does sound yummy!

Juice Fast #2–Day 1

I’m super excited!  So excited that I literally only slept five hours last night.  Part of my excitement is that right before I went to bed last night I decided to do another 15 day juice fast.  I do recall from last time feeling like 15 days was too long, but I know I can do it!

Part of my decision to start this fast came about because Joe Cross, the originator of the Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead movie posted on Facebook that he’s starting a 15 day reboot as well, starting today.  That’s all the motivation I needed to give this another go.  It’s almost like I have a partner in this fast, someone to hold me accountable.  I’ll be able to follow his, and other people who are posting to his timeline through their journey as I go through mine.

I’ve been wanting to do another juice fast for a while now.  I’ve even had two failed attempts.  My first failed attempt was because I was lazy and didn’t want to clean my juicer all the time.  I decided to do a juice fast with only store-bought juices (the green juices).  Those include a lot of puree in them, and really aren’t the right thing to be using on a juice only fast.  I’m not saying I won’t throw one in here or there, but that won’t be the majority of my juice.  My second failed attempt was using my juicer, but I cheated every single day.  The problem was lack of will-power, and the five pound bag of gummy bears that was on top of my refrigerator.  Needless to say, I just wasn’t ready.  I didn’t blog the other times either, and it really helps me stay accountable.

I ended my last (first) juice fast (almost exactly a year ago) at 134.5 pounds, and I’m starting this one today at 140.2.  So, you can see I haven’t gained a lot.  In fact I lost more weight after I finished my fast last time and was right around 130-132 for the majority of the time.  What lead to down the weight-gain path was a combination of a month-long vacation that wasn’t under the best of circumstances.  There were a lot of drinks, ice cream, and less than healthy food.  Even when it was healthy it was in too large of quantities.

What I’m hoping to gain from this fast is of course weight loss, but I’m also hoping to shrink the size of my stomach to go back to eating smaller quantities.  The health benefits of tons of veggies and fruits is good too!

My plan this time around is also to be more active than I was during the last fast.  Last time I spent a good majority of the time recovering from a surgery, so it made it easier I think.  I wasn’t working, wasn’t around people and other food. 

I have been running a ton lately.  Hoping to reach my goal of running a half marathon, but I’m not pushing it since I have had a running injury in the past.  That’s no fun, and I’m actually enjoying running this time around, I don’t want to ruin that.  I’ll be testing my running while fasting theory tonight on my fitness test for work.  I’m a little nervous going right into an actual test, but I know I’ll be ok.  I’ll share my results with you all tomorrow, and of course update you on my success!

A Clash of Kings

I just finished the second book in the Game of Thrones series by George R.R. Martin. This book coincides with season two of the HBO series. I haven’t actually watched season two yet (although it’s on my to do list), so I can’t say how it compares. I have heard a lot of talk about the two being fairly different though, especially Arya and Dany’s characters.

For me this book started off pretty slow. I’d say I was 30% into the book before I felt compelled to keep reading. By the half-way point I didn’t want to put it down. This is definitely a book that builds as it goes. So many twists and turns. They wait until the last chapter to kill some of the suspense regarding Bran. I won’t give it away, but I will say that I’m relieved it turned out the way it did, and not totally surprised since the whole story of Bran seemed to take off in a weird direction.

My absolute favorite chapter in the whole book was Dany’s chapter in the House of the Undying Ones! To be able to see that on screen would be amazing, but I’m not sure they could do it justice either.

I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen in book three. They’re going to have to start introducing some new characters soon because they keep killing people off left and right!

My favorite characters are Arya, Jon, Dany, Tyrion, and even Sansa has grown on me some (although she’s still far from good).
